Sintra is a pearl of nature with luxuriant vegetation, micro climate, a romantic environment, about 25 km northwest from Lisbon. This region was a hunting residence of Portuguese kings and a paradise of many romantic writers such as Lord Byron and Hans Christian Andersen.
Meeting point is at the train station followed by a 3 hours walking tour passing by the neo Manueline Town Hall, the public garden of the Liberdade, and the neo-Arab fountain.
Visit of the Royal Palace of Sintra with its courtyards and rooms filled with Hispanic-Arabic tiles. As this palace was built in stages, it describes the history of Portugal from the first dynasty until the proclamation of the republic in 1910. The 2 huge chimneys from the kitchen of the Palace have become the tourist symbol of Sintra.
Walk through the historic center of Sintra until the belvedere from where we have a panoramic view of the northern slope of the Sintra mountain range.
Continuation towards Vila Sassetti, a beautiful 19th-century summer house in the middle of a luxuriant garden. In this 1.5-hectare garden full of color and aroma we will find a Camellia Garden, exotic plants, a pergola, water lines, and some steps.
After this tour and to regain your energy nothing better than tasting Sintra’s specialties – the famous pastries called Queijada de Sintra and Travesseiro.
