The belvederes of Lisbon (west)
Lisbon has a unique physiognomy because of its seven hills, so there is nothing better than a walk through the narrow streets to get the different nice terraces. We start in the Restauradores Square at the end (of beginning) of the Liberdade Avenue with its romantic environment. Going up the hill until our first belvedere – the S. Pedro de Alcântara, you´ll see the modern Lisbon, the Castle of S. George, Down Town, the river Tagus, the other river bank… After zigzagging through Bairro Alto the center of nightlife, we lead us to the Carmo Square, an historical, cozy square with lots of jacaranda trees and the ruins of the Carmo Convent as background. Near this square we stop for a photostop to enjoy the view from the Elevador Sta Justa. Next stop will be Largo do Camões reminding us the best Portuguese writer and soon we´ll reach the Sta Catarina Belvedere. Here we have a sit at a typical kiosk to relax and prepare the camera to photograph the river, the statue of Christ and the old bridge.
